In the beginning there were rocks and trees and plants and things Mother Nature created. But, Mother Nature is never still and those trees become stumps; the plants, maybe they become a piece of fabric and the rocks can be twisted and shaped into quite fanciful forms. Then, I come along and give new life to the leftovers and turn these things into unique and individual creations. Each thing I create is one of a kind.
Nobody told me very often when I was a child that "that can't be done that way" or " you can't do that" so using a tool or any other object differently from what it was made for is just second nature to me. A lot of you do it anyway, when you recycle a container or put fresh flowers in a Mason jar. I do it with practically everything that comes into my hands. My reaction is to see that a piece of wood looks like a castle or a bird, or that an old box will make a beautiful shadowbox for a three dimensional sculpture, or a root that would rot away can become a tree that holds your jewelry.
I live far from the madding crowd and am just as likely to share my morning coffee with a deer or and eagle as I am to share it with my cats and my dog. Some days I will share this time with you and tell you all about the adventures, hardships, joys and happiness that go into being an artist who works with some of the strangest materials you'll ever see turned into a work of art. I call it art anyway for lack of a better word.
So, bear with me as I learn this new 'artform' called blogging and I will take you to places you would never get to see otherwise. I doubt I will ever be able to compete with the folks from National Geographic, but I will bring you some of the fleeting beauty that I capture with my camera, I'll share the seasons and take you to places only the deer and grouse walk. I'll show you how I make quilts from scratch. I'll share some of the tips I've picked up on how to preserve a piece of driftwood. There's just no telling which art or creation might show up here. I refer to myself as 'ecleceleptic'. That's my word so the spell check can't correct it. It means I am an eclectic artist who flits from one project to the next and when the creation muse hits I let it take me wherever it may. Interesting and amusing things can come of following your muse.
